You’ve decided to welcome a new pet in your home? Why not consider adopting a pet from the Mae Bachur Animal Shelter?  The Shelter has a wide selection of animals looking for new homes. Here are great reasons to adopt your new best friend:

Adoption helps stop pet overpopulation

There are too many animals and not enough homes.  The Shelter has been facing a pet overpopulation problem for several years. Some animals are found wandering as strays. Some are surrendered by their owners who cannot, or no longer want to, care for them. In order to help reduce pet overpopulation and being part of the solution, it’s important to have your pet sterilized, which is the only permanent, 100% effective method of birth control.

Adoption saves lives

The Shelter is frequently overcrowded. Adoption will not only save a life but will also make room and free up precious resources for another animal. Adopting an animal from the Shelter is the best way to help the Shelter continue its work.  The Shelter is meant to house animals temporarily.  In order to be able to help more animals in need, loving adoptive homes must be found for the animals taken in.

Adoption gives a second chance

The Shelter is full of healthy, sweet, smart animals who were surrendered not because of their behavior but generally due to the issues of their owners. The most common reason pets are surrendered is because of a change in circumstances in their family: a divorce, a move, a new baby, an illness or death, or the family was not ready for all the responsibilities related to pet parenting and “no longer has time for them”.  The Shelter offers adoptable pets of all ages, breeds, mixes and sizes.

Adoption often costs less

Pets adopted from the Shelter usually end up costing less than pets purchased or even obtained for free. Once you include the cost of vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, and deworming treatment, you’ll be surprised what a good deal an adopted pet really is!

Adopting from the Mae Bachur Animal Shelter is an act of rescue and love. It is a good deed for you, for the Shelter, but especially for the animal who needs you.
